It is located 370 KM south-east from the capital city of Dhaka, 150 Km south of Chittagong divisional town and adjacent to district town of Cox’s Bazar of Bangladesh. Cox’s Bazar is nicely connected with Dhaka by both road and air. Though Cox’s Bazar is one of the most tourist destinations in Bangladesh, it is yet to become a major international tourist destination, due to lack of publicity. It is located all along the Bay of Bengal and south of district town of Cox’s Bazar. Millions of visitors from home and abroad visit the longest natural sandy beach every year. Other than normal beach, this beach has some special attractions like, the beach is wide, gentle sandy slope touches the sea water, shark free beach near Cox’s Bazar and Inani, natural water fall at Himchori, marine drive road almost parallel to beach about 125 KM, stony beach at Inani and some scattered forests and most of the places green hills of about 60 feet high is running all along the beach. Many costly heavy minerals also found in this beach.

HTSTORY         Presently Cox’s Bazar district town is under Chittagong division of Bangladesh. The greater Chittagong area including Cox’s Bazar was under the rule of Arkan Kings from early ninth century till the conquest by Mughals during the time of Aurangzeb Alamgir in the year 1666 AD. Mughal prince Suja on the way to Arkan, halted at Dulhazra, Cox’s Bazar and was highly attracted to the scenic natural beauty of Cox’s Bazar surrounded by hills and blue water of Bay of Bengal. After the end of Mughals, the whole area came under control of Tipras and Arkanese. After that when Portuguese came to this area, they took over the control and followed by the British under the shadow of East India Company in 18th century.
The original name of Cox’s Bazar was Palongkee but the place was also known as Panwa, the literal translation of which means ‘Yellow Flower’. When Warren Hastings was the governor of Bengal, an officer serving in British India, Captain Hiran Cox was appointed as superintendent of Palongkee to deal with a century long conflict between local Rakhains and Arkan refugee following the British East India Company Act 1773. Captain Hiran Cox made significant progress in rehabilitation of refugees in the area and earned good name. He died in the year 1799. To commemorate his role in rehabilitation work, a market was established and was named after him as Cox’s Bazar. After 1947 Advocate Fazlul Karim became the first chairman of Cox’s Bazar town municipality. Mr. Fazlul Karim carried out many constructive works which in reality help to promote tourism, like carried our plantation of Tamarisk forest along the beach for beautification and protect the beach from the tidal waves, improvement of the beach area to attract the tourist in the sandy beach, improved health, accomodation and other services in the town for the tourists.

COX’S BAZAR SEA BEACH         It is an unbroken 125 KM sandy sea beach. It stretches from the mouth of Bakkali River of Cox’s Bazar, going all along Himchari, Inani and up to Teknaf. It’s a long sandy wide beach with gentle slope down to sea water. Cox’s Bazar is also one of few major spots for aquaculture in Bangladesh. The portion of beach near Cox’s Bazar is known as Laboni beach. Panorama of Cox’s Bazar in early morning where white clouds on the eastern side of blue sky, still blue water but somewhere silver shinning, green forest at the far, broken skyline by the small undulated hills and long sandy beach gently kissing the calm blue water.
The beach at Laboni is visited by thousands of visitors everyday. Most of them enjoy in the water, taking sun bath or playing in the sandy beach up to noon. In afternoon, visitors like to walk on the beach with colorful dress, like fresh air, enjoy the natural beauty and specially enjoy the beauty of sunset in the sea on the west. Various kinds of Oyster, snail, pearl and their ornaments are very popular with tourist in sea beach area and city stores. Recently, Bangladesh government is tiring to promote tourism. In Laboni beach, in recent years some other events are also enjoyed by the visitors. One of the interesting events was surfing. Beach football is also played in Laboni beach. Last year high king (walking) along the beach line were enjoyed by about one thousand visitors. Night on 31 December 2011, there was an open concert in the Laboni sea beach where thousands of visitors enjoyed the moment of welcoming Happy New Year 2012 and a live telecast was carried out to for the viewers staying outside Bangladesh. Horse riding in the beach is also liked by the people. As the beach is too long, there are a few jeeps though not impressive but dependable are available for the tourist to go miles after miles and enjoy beach driving. Some times the tourist avail marine drive along the beach to the other places to enjoy like Himchori, Inani, Teknaf and back to Laboni beach.

Himchori is a place on the beach, which is about 18 KM south of Laboni beach. The place is nice for picnic spot and film shooting. The green hills running almost parallel to beach really attract the visitors. The place is very attractive due to a natural water falls from a hill. The area is further beautified by the chrisms trees.

Inani is a place on the beach, which is about 35 KM south of Laboni beach. The beach at Inani is highly attractive to all visitors for following reasons. It has all characteristics like other beaches but specialty is, the sand on the beach is golden in color, the beach water is very clean, this beach is shark free and no incident so far, a portion of the beach having quite a number of natural stones scattered in the beach area. Most interesting part is, these big stones are submerged during high tide and completely comes out in low tide as seen in the picture. Laboni beach mostly remain crowded but many tourist prefer to come down to Inani beach for relaxing as the number of visitors are less. The near by green stiff hills on the east and blue sea on the west offers more attraction to the sun and sand lovers.
Teknaf is a place where 125 KM longest beach ends. Many visitors come to see the end point of the beach by jeeps. The water is clean and fresh. It is almost at the end of main land of Bangladesh.

ACCOMODATION AND OTHER INFORMATIONS.         In recent years, total numbers of hotels, accommodations, rest houses, guest houses and motels have increased a lot for which total numbers of visitors have increased rapidly. At present about eleven thousand visitors can accommodate in Cox’s Bazar only. Besides, many visitors stay at Inani, Himchori and Teknaf. Accommodation at Cox’s Bazar will increase up to twenty thousand by the year 2017. Booking for accommodation is normally given minimum two weeks before going to Cox’s Bazar. Many private sectors are investing huge amount to attract tourist of both home and abroad. Many people are involved in customer service, hospitality, transport businesses and sea products. No complain or incident of shark in all over the beaches. But at the end of the beach at Teknaf, fisher men some times get small shark in their nets about 2 to 3 Km away from the beach which is about 120 KM south of Laboni beach. There are many good sites like, Maheskhali, Aggmeda Khhyng, Ramu, Dulahazra Safari Park and St. Martin’s Island can be seen which are very close to Cox’s Bazar town. Most of them are related with Buddhism.
In Cox’s Bazar beach, mean temperature of whole year is +21 degree Celsius to +29.9 degree Celsius. In January the temperature is lowest, which is normally +14 degree Celsius and in May the temperature is highest, which is about +33 degree Celsius. The best time to visit Cox’s Bazar is from the month of October to end of March. Rain fall during these months are normally not seen.

MINERAL CONTENT IN THE BEACH AREA               Cox’s Bazar sandy beach contains both white and golden color sands with lot of precious heavy minerals of specific gravity >2.9. This deposit is seen almost all along the wide sandy beach of 125 KM, along with surrounding islands of Moheshkhali, Kutubdia and Nijhum deap. In the year 1961, the erstwhile geological survey of Pakistan, initiated investigation about type and quantity of precious heavy minerals including the presence of radio active minerals like monazite, in and around the long Cox’s Bazar beach. A large number of precious heavy minerals were identified and a few of them are sufficient in quantity. After independence of Bangladesh, in the year 1975 government established a pilot plant at Kalatali, Cox’s Bazar to assess the commercial viability of the heavy minerals content in the placer deposits of the area with the cooperation of the Australian government. Heavy minerals are found in the sands of cox’s Bazar beach, these sands are dominated by epidote, garnet, hornblende, ilmenites(both unaltered and altered) with magnetite, pyrite, rutile and different types of hydroxides. It is believed to have minerals deposit of 5.119 Metric Ton at Cox’s Bazar, 0.729 Metric Ton at Inani beach area and almost all along the beach up to Teknaf having similar types of deposit. It is expected to have total deposit of 04.4 million Metric ton of heavy minerals all along the Cox’s Bazar sea beach. Besides, Maheshkhali, Kutubdia and Nijhum Deap will also increase the deposit of heavy minerals.

CONCLUSION         Location of Bangladesh is just beside India and not very far from Thailand and even from Malaysia. Cox’s Bazar is having very good road and air connectivity with Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. Tourist from all over the world, specially from USA and EUROPE can plan easily to drop down to Bangladesh to enjoy the world’s largest sea beach at Cox’s Bazar, also known as PANOWA( means Yellow Flower).
I have personally visited many places outside Bangladesh. I liked Cyprus because of its Limasol sea beach and Aian-Appa sea beach. These beaches are equipped with many modern facilities. Cox’s Bazar beach still do not posses such modern facilities but the panoramic and natural beauty of Cox’s Bazar beach having green small hills on its east, wide sandy beach gently sloping down to blue sea water is unparalleled. Besides such longest beach, having natural water falls, marine drive almost parallel to sea beach, clean water at Inani area, shark free, stony beach during low tide at Inani is really marvelous. Sun rises in the morning between the green hills and sets down on the west, where horizon touching the golden sea is really worth seeing. In recent years, it is observed that Bangladesh government is very keen to improve the tourism sector and taken lot of steps and improve the service to the tourists. Last few years both public and private sector is investing huge amount to make the tourist comfortable at Cox’s Bazar and the trend of growing more visitors at Cox’s Bazar sea beach is observed.
